Annette Schäfer

Annette Schäfer

Violin, Viola d´amore und Chamber Music, Workshop Baroque Bow

After studying at the Musikhochschule Stuttgart she studied at the Mozarteum in Salzburg under Prof. Sandor Végh. This was completed with a high degree with distinction. She attended master classes with N. Harnoncourt and S. Standage in historical performance practice.

Annette Shepherd is a freelance soloist and chamber musician. She regularly plays modern violin in the Radio-Sinfonieorchester Stuttgart of the SWR; She plays her baroque violin as a member of the Baroque Orchestra of Stuttgart and the Stuttgart Court Orchestra. She works alongside Reinhard Goebel, Junghänel, and others.

For several years she has prepared talented young violinists for entrance exams to music colleges. Her expert command of the viola d'amore is apparent in her CD recording of the Partita for Two Violas d'Amore by HIF Biber, together with her husband, Gunter Teuffel.

Gunter Teuffel is the principal violist of the RSO Stuttgart of the SWR and a professor at the Stuttgart Musikhochschule. He recorded the viola d'amore concerts of Carl Stamitz and those of Leos Janacek's "Intimate Letters" in the original version with viola d'amore instead of the normal Viola, and was awarded the prize of the German Record Critics. Recently he recorded a new CD of "Hindemith Works for Viola d'Amore" with Hindemith's own instrument. Gunter Teuffel studied with Enrique Santiago, the Melos Quartet, Sandor Végh and with William Primrose. In 2012, he published his translation "David Dalton, The Art of Viola Paying, Conversationswith William Primrose," which is considered the single comprehensive "bible" for viola.

Born in Vienna. Studied cello with Prof Frieda Litschauer-Krause and received her Diploma with Highest Honors. Further studies and Masterclasses with Cassado, Orloff, Mainardi, Casals, and Noras.

Member of the Vienna Trio, Andrea Barca, and the String Quintet Mozarteum. Since 1973, Professor at the University Mozarteum, and has given Masterclasses in Europe, Japan, Korea, South Africa, Chile, and Cuba.

The Double Bass player Ciro Vigilante, finished his studies in Vienna with Prof. Andrew Ackermann with Honors. Since then he has embarked on a playing career that has taken him to the most important Festivals (Salzburg, Mostly Mozart, N.Y, Schleswig-Holstein, Aix-en-Provence, Schubertiade , Prague Spring), Concert venues (Carneigie hall, Wigmore hall, Concertgebouw, Kennedy Center, Theater de Colon, Royal Albert Hall, Gasteig, Liederhalle, Berlin Philharmonie) with many prominent conductors (Sir Simon Rattle, Zubin Mehta, Lorin Maazel Sir Neville Marriner, Neme Järvi, Daniel Gatti Daniel Harding) and Soloists (Victoria Mullova, Joshua Bell, Lisa Biatschavilli, Maxim Vengerov, Frank Peter Zimmerman, Emanuel Ax, Martha Argerich, Alfred Brendel, Rudolf Buchbinder, Tzimon Barto, Heinrich Schiff, Peter Wispelway, Steven Isserlis, Renaud Capucon, Elena Garanca, Edita Gruberova, Jose Calleja) all over the world.

He is currently the Principal Bass in the Vienna Chamber Orchestra and also plays in the Australian World Orchestra.

After a concert in the Carneigie Hall , the new York Times critic labelled him as a „characterful Bass player“.

Nadine Hartung studied in the preparatory division of the State Academy of Music in Stuttgart and received her diploma with distinction. Subsequently, she studied in the solo class of Prof. Shoshana Rudiakov.

She has won prizes as a soloist and chamber musician in the "Stuttgart Matthaes Piano Competition," the "Lions club competition" and the "Concorso Mirabent" in Barcelona. Nadine Hartung is an accompanist and pianist at SWR Stuttgart, Stuttgart State Opera and the Stuttgart Chamber Orchestra and has a full-time position for accompaniment of string classes at the Stuttgart Academy of Music since 2007.

Angela Paynter received her education in Cape Town and, after obtaining the LRSM Piano Licentiate (London) with distinction at the age of 19, she completed her Bachelors Degree in Music and Languages at the University of Cape Town.

A UNISA Scholarship enabled her to continue her cello studies for 3 years at the Mozarteum, Salzburg, Austria under Prof. Heidi Litschauer, during which time she led an intense activity as chamber musician, performing in the "Camerata" under  Sandor Vegh amongst others. On her return to Cape Town, she was cellist with the Cape Town Symphony Orchestra for 8 years and also performed regularly as member of smaller  
instrumental ensembles.

In 1990 she qualified in England as teacher of the Alexander Technique, specialising in the needs of performing musicians. She then moved to Italy, teaching at the Scuola di Musica di Fiesole near Florence, and has offered regular seminars in Alexander Technique for Musicians at the Universitat Mozarteum in Salzburg over the last 25 years. During this period, she gave AT seminars in many musical Institutions in Italy and Europe, including the Konservatoriums of Innsbruck and Trondheim,Norway and Corfu in Greece.

She is currently living in her home town of Cape Town in South Africa and is once again an active participant in the cultural life of the city, both as cellist and as AT teacher offering regular seminars at the University of Stellenbosch (Faculty of Drama and Music Konservatorium) besides private teaching and workshops. She returns to Europe on a regular basis to offer AT workshops in Italy and Austria.

She is fluent in English, German, and Italian.
